Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers were led by Deirdre Leavy on a walk on Sliabh Ban near Strokestown on Sunday 19 May 2019. Although the drive to the car park was uphill there was still a stiff climb up the footpath to the main trail leading to the 1950 Holy Year Cross on the summit. Large areas of forest had been felled, opening up spectacular views southeast over Lough Ree and far beyond Lanesboro at one point while there were similarly impressive views to the north and west later in the walk.

The huge size of the 20 wind turbines on the mountain was undeniable as the group followed the trail from the Cross to the Mass Rock and Ruined Church on the eastern side of the mountain. Thank you to Deirdre for leading the walk.

The Ramblers will visit Wales over the Bank Holiday weekend, so there will be no organised walk on Sunday 2 June 2019.

New members and new walks are always welcome. For details phone Philip at 087 7753612 or Nini at 086 8754411.  See boherquillramblers.ie

Streete Wildlife Club

Streete shooting grounds summer league got underway last Thursday night with over 50 shooters taking part. With scores coming in the high 30s and mid 40s Cavan man Richard O'Rawe finished Top Gun with a good score of 46/50. The league is a 50 bird sporting layout run over eight stands to simulate the all Ireland format, so if your club or County needs practice Streete is the place to be on Thursday nights for the next seven weeks.

Again the club would like to thank main sponsor for this league Connor Cassidy of Conor Cassidy Car Sales Edgeworthstown Co Longford.  See you all next week.

Sheep Protest

Congratulations to local man Sean McNamara sheep chair of ICSA., who organised a very successful protest at the Irish Country Meats plant in Camolin Co. Wexford on Monday last. Sheep farmers from Donegal, Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath, Offaly and Laois rallied together at the crack of dawn, to travel to Wexford where they were joined by their colleagues from the south of Ireland. All farmers were united in anger as they protested at the savage price cuts imposed on hard pressed farmers by the meat factories who slashed the price of lambs by at least twenty euro per head on last year.

Vintage Day

This year is Sunday, 30th June and will include music by well-known musician, Johnny Brady accompanied by Carmel Mcloughlin.
